This is a PDF pattern to create a leather cross-body bag – The Barque Bag – and a leather stand-alone zipper clutch that fits into the bag.

The leather template includes a pattern to make an adjustable leather strap using a whole belt buckle and swivel clasp buckles.

The second option is to use a purse chain of various lengths for a light stylish carry as a handbag or on-shoulder purse. Alternatively, you can make a fixed length leather strap using the included patterns.

The bag pattern comes with two front look variations – one using a hidden snap button and the other a visible button stud for the closure. In both variations, the closure creates a hidden card slot on the back of the bag for quick access to an ID or bank card or license ID.

The zipper clutch also has an external card slot and a big compartment for cash and more cards behind the zipper. The leather bag design allows for creative two-tone or monochrome leather combinations.

Bag dimensions:

23.5cm long at the top / 18cm long at the bottom

15.5cm tall

10 cm wide at at bottom

Zipper clutch dimensions: 18/10cm

Skill level: Advanced

Leather:

> 1.8-2mm thickness (4.5-5 oz), medium to soft temper for the main body, the closure and the clutch (the clutch leather can be also as thin as 1.4mm 3.5oz)

> You will need a 42/30cm (17/12in) leather panel for the main body of the bag.

> The panels required for the closure flap, the clutch and other pattern pieces will all fit into a 42/18cm (17/8in) panel

Above two total to ~2.3 sq. feet of leather needed (42/48cm ~ 17/20in panel)

> 2.4-2.5mm thickness (6oz) for the strap

> The strap is 20mm (4/5inches) wide and you need two pieces one 48cm (~19in) long and one 90cm (~35in) long.

Pattern specific tools/materials:

> 1mm, 2mm, 4mm and 5mm hole punches

> 2 x 20mm D-rings

> 1 x 16cm long #3 closed-end zipper for the zipper clutch

> Closure Option A – 1 x snap button up to 15mm diameter

> Closure Option B 1 x button stud 9mm or 10mm cap size.

> Strap Option A – 1 x 20mm whole belt buckle and 2 x 20mm swivel clasp buckles

> Strap Option B a purse chain: 40cm, 80cm or 120cm. Those are available in many variations online when searching for a purse chain. They usually come with swivel clasp buckles already attached to them.

> Note: stitching holes in the pattern are 4mm from the edge and spaced at 3.85mm, however illustrative in nature. You can use other spacing based on your pricking irons or stitching chisels, or aesthetic preferences.

> Always print at 100% for the pattern to work correctly. Measure and cut on the outside edge of the lines.
